With all these abandoned quarries on the Maltese islands I suggest that with strategic quarries around certain localities will be transformed into reservoirs all of them connected with underground tunnels so thousands of gallons of rain water each year would not go to waste as we all know most of the rain water is drained back to the sea. This way many of our agriculture lands will benefit from this, it will help also help watering plants and trees in localities, removing all those bowsers
there are more benefits....
If managed properly they can also replenish the aquifer.
